Mega Riot Champions: 8th Grade

Being in Middle School at Brook Hill is more than just going to class, making good grades and going to practices. Last night, our Middle School students got to compete in the 2016 Mega Riot, which puts each grade up against each other in an all-out hunt for the missing key. There were over 200 keys hidden all around the campus and their task: find as many keys as you can and hope you find the special one that opens the treasure chest. We gathered in the gym, explained the rules and let them begin the quest for the key. Several of our Upper School students acted as “police officers”. When they tagged a Middle School student, the student had to report to “jail” and could only be released if they did things like sing a Taylor Swift song, make a human pyramid, do the worm on the ground or rap happy birthday.
The students found keys along the sidewalks, hanging from trees, hidden in bushes, hiding in window seals and placed underneath tables. At 8:00 we gathered back in the gym to count the keys and discover which student had the key that matched the lock to open the treasure chest. The dramatic moment hit its climax when eighth grader Annaka Willis’ key unlocked the padlock, opening the treasure chest full of goodies. Annaka won a $30 gift card for herself and “2016 Mega Riot Champions” and $2 Student Center vouchers for her entire grade. The 8th grade also had the most keys, which allows them access to skip the lunch line everyday next week.
