Meet Steve Soldi

Born and raised outside of Boston, Massachusetts, Steve graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in his home state, where he majored in English and discovered his lifetime love for the intersection of 51AVÊÓƵity and Literature. Steve completed his graduate studies at the University of Dallas. He took an interdisciplinary degree in the Humanities, combining the pursuit of History, Philosophy, Theology, and Literature. Steve went on to satisfy his dual concentration in Philosophy and Literature with independent research projects on the religious epistemology in Blaise Pascal’s Of the Geometrical Spirit and the 51AVÊÓƵ Humanism in François Rabelais’s Gargantua and Pantagruel.

Back in the spring of 2021, Mr. Soldi and a group of his AP Humanities students created the Culture Club at Brook Hill. The club provides members a deeper understanding of the development of Western culture through the study of visual art, architecture, music, and theater. The foundation of the club, Kenneth Clarke’s Civilisation, viewed by members over the course of two school years, is built up by cultural excursions. On those trips, members have been privileged to revel in the stunning paintings at the Dallas Museum of Art, the architectural majesty of Roseland Plantation, the operatic allure of Wagner’s Das Rheingold, the symphonic genius of Mozart’s Requiem, and the theatrical power of Melville’s Moby-Dick. In his latest essay published at Public Discourse, the journal of the Witherspoon Institute at Princeton, Mr. Soldi draws from his work in the Culture Club and argues that culture, informed by religion, is the driving force of history, and that cult, in the sense of “worship,” is the wellspring of culture. He dedicates his essay to all past, current, and future members!

Mr. Soldi, thank you for everything you do for our students in the classroom and in your clubs! We are proud of you for your recent published article & podcast interview, and we are grateful for your expertise.
