Calling All Supporters of the Fine Arts
From the desk of Glenn Ballard, Fine Arts Director:
One of the distinctives of The Brook Hill School is our award-winning Fine and Performing Arts program. It is becoming more and more common for parents to tell me that they chose Brook Hill for their son or daughter because of the fine arts opportunities offered at our school.
I recently heard from a professional colleague in town who said, “Glenn, when people think of fine arts in Tyler, they think of Brook Hill.” Well, we all love to hear such things, and we will do our very best to be worthy of such accolades. With the support of our academic dean, we will continue to add classes, such as the new guitar class, the jazz band class and the dance class; all new for 2016. And we will continue to provide the best arts educators in the region. Our team of fine arts educators boasts over 90 years of collective fine arts teaching experience. And we will continue to offer what is certainly one of the premiere fine arts experiences in the region. But such a program does not thrive just because of the teachers or the talented young people in our classes. It takes dedicated parents who support our efforts.
And we do need you! Please accept my invitation to the first SOFA meeting of this school year. SOFA stands for “Supporters of Fine Arts,” and is the name of our amazing fine arts booster club. There are numerous events during the school year for which we need parent volunteers to help us fulfill our mission. And everyone can help, in ways large or small.
Our first general meeting will be held next Tuesday evening, September 6, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Lecture Hall. Our president, Mrs. Esther Yeager will give a brief history and overview of SOFA and will share some of the exciting work that SOFA volunteers will be doing this year. Please plan to attend. And if you want to join us but simply cannot make it next Tuesday, you can give us a call, or reply to this email that you want to be included in things pertaining to the fine arts.
I hope to see you there.
