Art Students Create Self-Portraits
Mrs. Spradlin’s Kindergarten students assembled previously colored shapes to make a “Self Portrait Artist Collage” in art class this week.
This project is a great beginning project because it allows the teacher to assess important art skills like drawing directional lines and patterns and also cutting and gluing shapes together. Also, we are all artists to some degree, and the end product represents that. Each student’s self-portrait imagined them holding a palette and brush in front of a canvas on an easel.
Students enjoy making portraits of themselves and think it is fun to incorporate artist tools like easels, brushes, and canvases in their collages. Through this project, students got a chance to practice drawing, cutting, and gluing skills also. Assembling all of the pieces is challenging also.
